What We Believe

At Willow Oak, we believe the good news of Jesus Christ is for everyone. We believe God has revealed Himself through Scripture, that Jesus is the Son of God and Savior of the world, and that the Holy Spirit is at work in the lives of those who follow Him.

Our desire is to be a church that honors God’s Word, follows Jesus faithfully, welcomes people warmly, and helps one another grow in faith, hope, and love. Below, you can learn more about the beliefs that shape who we are.

  • We believe that God is sovereign, eternal, holy, and loving. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and He has revealed Himself through creation, through Scripture, and most fully through Jesus Christ.

God is not distant or unknowable. He has made Himself known and invites us into relationship with Him through His Son.

    Genesis 1:1; Psalm 19:1

  • We believe that Jesus is God in the flesh, the Son of God, fully divine and fully human. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead, and reigns as Lord and Savior.

Jesus is not merely a teacher, prophet, or moral example. He is the promised Christ, the only Savior, and the clearest revelation of God’s heart.

    John 1:1; Matthew 16:16; Acts 4:12; Colossians 2:9

  • We believe that God’s Holy Spirit is active in conversion and is the indwelling presence of God in the heart of every Christian.

The Holy Spirit convicts, renews, strengthens, guides, and helps believers grow into the likeness of Christ.

    1 Corinthians 3:16; Titus 3:5; Acts 2:38

  • We believe that both the Old Testament and New Testament are the inspired Word of God and are our authority for faith, teaching, and life.

The Bible reveals who God is, what He has done, and how we are called to live as His people. We seek to build our beliefs and practices on Scripture rather than human tradition alone.

    2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12; Psalm 119:105

  • We believe that salvation is found in Christ alone and is received by God’s grace, through faith, in baptism, and for a life of good works.

We cannot earn salvation by our own goodness. We are saved because of what Jesus has done through His death and resurrection. In faith, we respond to the gospel by trusting Christ, repenting of sin, confessing Him as Lord, being baptized into Him, and living as His disciples.

    Ephesians 2:8–9; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:27

  • We believe that baptism is an essential response of faith in which a believer is united with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. In keeping with the New Testament pattern, we practice baptism by immersion in water.

In baptism, we obey the command of Christ, identify with Him, receive the promises of the gospel, and begin a new life as part of God’s people.

    Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12; Acts 22:16; 1 Peter 3:21
